Traveling with Kids
Taking your little one on a long adventure can be intimidating to many but it also can be a wonderful experience for you and your entire family. Exploring new places with your child opens their eyes to the beauty of the world and increases their curiosity and their views on the world.
Safety:
Whether it be a trip for the weekend, long vacation, or a new lifestyle of full-time RV’ing, traveling with your children can be a learning experience. The first and most important part of traveling with family is the safety of everyone on board. Seat-belts and car seats for children are not optional just because you are in a larger vehicle, bigger doesn’t mean safer. Please remember car seats are not designed to travel sideways so do not station your child in the dinette or couch areas of your RV unless they are facing forward. Also, small children weighing less than 20 lbs or under the age of 1 year should remain in a rear facing seat and toddlers should be in a forward facing car seat or a booster seat until they reach the height of 4’9” and is between the age of 8-12 years.
Traveling:
Long trips can be challenging for people of all ages but especially challenging for young children. However, there is no reason as to why children cannot enjoy traveling just as much as you. In order to keep everyone happy, frequent stops to use the restroom and get some stretches can be beneficial. Having snacks and drinks accessible can also contribute to the positive energy flowing throughout your RV. If you want to avoid a mess, pack snacks that won’t create crumbs or cause a sticky mess. Spending a long period of time buckled in can get very boring for your child, but when packing toys be sure to remember that noisy toys can get annoying after a while.
Entertainment:
Once you have arrived to your destination you can check out what sorts of activities your campground has planned for their guest. Most campgrounds are very kid friendly and provide different games, crafts and movies to keep your children entertained. Campgrounds also provide a much safer environment then your typical motel. The outdoors is a great place for exploring and expanding the curiosity of your son/daughter. There is also the opportunity for meeting and playing with other children at a campground. If the weather isn’t agreeing with your weekend plans, be sure to pack kid friendly movies to pop in on a rainy day!
Be Happy:
Having a positive outlook about your future traveling plans with your family will help your trip start out on a good foot. Children can thrive in any environment and can adapt easier than some people may believe. Be enthusiastic about taking family adventures, because your children will feed off of your positive energy. The RV lifestyle is a fulfilling experience for everyone and can continue to be one for your future years even as your child grows. The outdoors is a soothing place that will make a beautiful impression on your family and your children. Be sure to make the most of each moment as you travel in the comforts of your mobile home.
